And how do we at Smile know this? Because we’ve been Scuba
Diving with
ScubaDoo for this month’s Challenge Smile. Not only did we
learn to dive, but we learned a bit about our environment too.
The bit that takes up the majority of our planet, the wet bit.
It’s quite a phenomenal fact that us land-lubbers really only
get to see a tiny proportion of the planet we live on and the
flora and fauna it contains. The surface of our planet is
covered, amazingly, with 71% water. And it’s this part of the
world we know the least about but, thanks to
ScubaDoo, Smile can bring you a bit of an insight into the
beauty that’s hidden in some of that wet stuff.
I
took a PADI
(Scuba Diving’s leading accreditation body) ‘Discover Scuba
Diving’ course.
PADI Qualified Dive Master for the day was
ScubaDoo’s Nigel, and along with me came a mixed bunch of
land dwellers, some of whom had tried Scuba before but wanted
to have a refresher. This included Megan who, at Spain’s
youngest legal diving age of 12 years, proved on the day that
Scuba really is for just about
everyone!
We started with a video explaining the
basic techniques we were to learn on the day and about the
potential dangers. No, not sharks and stingray, more the
importance of staying calm and breathing regularly which
turned out to be as simple as it sounds.
Then we headed up to
Marina Bay in La Herradura to get wet.
Two at a time,
Nigel took us down 6 metres to the sea bed where we went
through the basic drills we’d learned earlier on. Basically
the simple stuff you need to know in order to safely explore
and ‘WOW’ at the undiscovered.
And what ‘WOWS’
there were. Scuba Diving made me feel like superman. Not just
because I was wearing a really tight suit but because said
suit and its complementing extras make you just about
perfectly balanced, meaning you can hover, float and fly
around the contours of the ocean bed and rocks with ease
whilst checking out its residents. Scuba Diving is truly
amazing and if you’re one of those people who say, "I’d really
like to try that". Stop putting it off and get in touch with
ScubaDoo today!
Special thanks go
to Dave and Nigel at
ScubaDoo and also to John, whose underwater video footage
gave us the pictures we needed to bring you this month’s
Challenge Smile.
