What about the legal side, is it as straight forward as
getting married in the UK?
If you know how things work legally it can be, but there
are some things you need to remember if you plan to get
married in Spain. For example, it must be through the
Catholic Church and at least one of you must be Catholic.
But don’t let that put you off, if neither of you are
Catholic but you would still like to have a ceremony in
Spain – it can be arranged. You would have to marry in a
registry in the UK, Ireland or Gibraltar, bring proof that
you are married to Spain and have a blessing (similar to
Church of England). This opens up even more options for
your special day as the blessing can be carried out in
hotel grounds or even on the beach!
In any case, it’s always better to speak to a professional
before booking anything if you plan to marry in Spain.
